Sugar Challenge: February 2010

The sugar challenge for February is simple: avoid sugary drinks.

  • Coffee and tea (if you must) without sugar.
  • Milk (if you must) without chocolate mix.
  • Nothing from Starbucks.
  • 100% natural fruit juice at your discretion (see how much you drink).
  • No soda (avoid substituting sugary soda with diet soda).

In fact, if you can swing it, just drink water all month. That’s hardcore but completely doable.

Let us know how you do!

I’m gonna do it.  This will be my first sugar-free challenge and since one week of Feb is already gone, I’m just going to do the 3 weeks.  No sugary drinks until my birthday (Feb 27).

If I can do that, I’m going to give up sweets and sweetened things until May.  I, too, am at my heaviest ever and need to do something about it.  However, I also need to succeed, so I’m going to start slowly.

Thanks for the inspiration and great links!  smile

It’s only been a few days, but how’s it going?

I decided to stop drinking Coke about four months ago. It was actually very easy as I knew it was out of control. I live in Portland, Oregon. If you order a Coke here, they keep bringing you new glasses of Coke when you finish the first one. I have defintely gone through four in one night. Then,  I had to have it when I went to my favorite Mexian food place, etc, etc. My favorite is McDonald’s coke. Then I had enough and just quit.

A few days ago I came down from a few months of being ill- I was worn out and I said to myself. I wonder what it would be like to just have one Coke. And I did- dumb! I then had some more and finally said to myself, “Julie, you really like iced tea. You don’t over drink it- you usually make decaf and add herbal raspberry tea for a nice flavor. Why on earth would you want to go back to Coke?” So I stopped again and am pop free. I will take on this challenge- for me the big one is no Starbucks. But I need a reason not to go and this is it.

Thanks for this blog. I will come daily. I am tired of eating so much sugar! Julie

Ok, I heard on the Christian radio station that we should give up something that is bad for us for a month, starting March 1. That would be today and I decided I would give up sugar….what was I thinking???? I made it out of the store last night without the coconut hersheys kisses because I knew I would have to eat the whole bag if I were going to start this today. I did eat one last piece of german chocolate cake last night. I went to the store and bought lots of fruit.  When I contacted the radio station to see if they had a support blog they said no. I was just sitting here resisting the angel food cake in the kitchen and thought I would google quiting sugar and look who came up. I am so happy there will be someone there to talk to at night. I think I might get through this after all. Thanks for any support you can toss my way. Judi

Unreal today at work. The boss brought in two huge boxes of do-nuts. All my favorites.
I ate an apple….
In lunch room boxes of nut clusters…..
I ate another apple…..
Sure hope I don’t run out of apples….
Thanks for replying. Where do I find out about the March challenge?
two days down…....later…. Judi
