Simply avoid sweets for the month. From May 1st (or right now as you read this) until the end of the month, simply stop being sweet.
Do not eat anything with refined sugars. Make no exceptions. Make no excuses. Simply eat well.
If you have a question such as, “Does that include my morning coffee?” Or, “What about organically sweetened candy?” The answer is yes. Yes meaning do not eat them!
Eat only foods without added refined sugars. Avoid high fructose corn syrup, organic cane juice, corn syrup, Maltitol, Splenda, and other chemical sweeteners.
Naturally occurring sugars such as those found in fruit are okay.
You can do it. Good luck!
Am I the only one who has written this month? Or am I once again stymied by technology (temporarily). I will accepet the challenge. The rest of the month is ten days away; I can do that, right? One day at a time…
Lately I have been reading about an Alzheimer’s and sugar connnection- that people affected by Alzheimer’s may tend to eat large quantities of sugar. My father has Alzheimer’s at 74 years old and has been extremely fit his entire life with a centerfold type of physique (not that I do those or anything...) and he has worked as a lawyer so has maintained good mental functioning and yet he has Alzheimer’s. He consumes and craves inordinant amounts of sugar, as do I.
I also have had a traumatic brain injury, severe, and that, also, is supposed to be a harbinger, perhaps of Alzheimer’s. So I REALLY want to get off of sugar (again) and am not sure what I can do to support my success. Thank you all for participating in this and perhaps this will help.

I’ve been visiting this site for a while now...I actually found it a year ago when I wasn’t eating sweets AT ALL. I’m dying to go back to that...sugar is horribly addicting and it gives me mood swings, makes me feel sluggish, bloated, etc. That’s why I gave it up in the first place. I spent a year without eating sugar and it was amazing...the cravings were gone and I was eating super healthy and exercising. Unfortunately I was talked into “loosening up” on my diet and I introduced sugar back into my life. Big mistake! I have a sugar addiction! So now I’m trying to get back to my healthy eating habits but it’s HARD. I don’t know how I managed it before! I tried the May challenge and lasted about a week before giving in. I really want to get healthy again but I struggle with cravings every day.

thank you all out there in cyberspace (especially David) for your support and I am now on my third day of no sugar. I know I want to also eliminate honey and maple syrup and other concentrated sweeteners but for now I am trying to be gentle with myself; no white sugar for now is a challenge. I definitely cannot eat artificial sweeteners also as they screw up my stomach. I am going one day at a time, one moment at a time and noticing that I create space in my life I used to fill with sugar and now am remembering to breathe and allow the space without freaking out. Or running to turn on the television. My cats help to teach me how to just be and be content. They also teach me that I don’t have to kiss a@& ever and I don’t always have to be in a sociable mood. And I still love them. Probably more than if they were always wanting to be the center of attention.
