In this video my parents taste test some Godiva chocolate to determine if there’s a noticeable difference between the Maltitol sweetened chocolate and the sugar sweetened chocolate.

Right on! Great video! That was really sweet to have your parents do a taste test. At the end as you began to sum up the results, I wondered if you were going to suggest maltitol candy as an alternative to sugar. I’m so glad you didn’t! Maltitol is the WORST alternative sweetener, as far as immediate, unpleasant side-effects. I’m curious what you, the stop-being-sweet guy, has in mind as far as an alternative to candy bars in general. Ideas?

Alternative to candy bars in general? Fruit. Veggies. Any of the sugar-free snacks you bake would work if you chopped them up into small bite sized portions. Half the battle of getting over the need to snack is breaking the habit of having something small to snack on. You’ve heard smokers say that they don’t know what to do with their hands after they quit. same for sugar addicts. We need new habits. Just like cigarettes becomes a thing of the past for smokers, candy bars become a thing of the past for sugar addicts.

All that said, some people (myself included) have found Larabars to be a decent way to go. I ate a lot of them when I initially got off sugar and people have often told me that they used Larabars as well.

You have very cute parents indeed! Could you suggest replacement foods right then and there, maybe?

Annie, where were you when we made the video?! smile Now I have another video to make about replacement foods! Actually, the Stop Being Sweet book explains how to find them. I’ve recommended some RF in this blog, but mostly I leave that up to people to determine for themselves. Perhaps it’s something to give attention to in future posts. Thanks!
