Weekly Sugar Challenge: Week of January 10, 2011

January 10, 2011 Comments (4)

It’s 2011 alright. As the year just gets rolling and things slowly get back to normal after the holidaze, it’s easy to slip back into old habits. I find this time of year exciting and stressful at the same time. Perhaps you do as well.

This week’s sugar challenge is to notice when you eat. Every time you put something in your belly take note of the circumstances surrounding your consumption.

Are you hungry?

Did you eat too much? Too little?

What did you eat? Was that the first thing you wanted when you felt like eating?

Take note. That’s all. Just pay attention.

The most difficult time is when I’m extremely stressed over circumstances that are out of my control, especially when several things hit at once.
I always want sugar over anything else.  I also notice that I want sugar when I’m really tired.
I am more aware of my cravings, but boy, it sure is hard to give up the sweets for comfort.

Hi Linda.  I have been there many times.  What sometimes helps me is to read success stories or watch The Biggest Loser for inspiration.
I have something available such as Greek yoghurt with cooked blueberries on top.  If by goal you mean weight, it helps me to focus on the physical benefits.  I have lowered my cholesterol and working on bone density without medication.  The weight loss has been slow, but steady.
Keep going.  We have all been there.

Hi Linda, get up, brush yourself off and keep going.  Your promise to yourself should be as important or more importanto then a promise to anyone else.  Be a woman of integrity and do what you said you will do.  Each time you fall (and you will fall again) vow to stay down a shorter amount of time then before.  You will get there.

About Me

I realized I had a sugar problem back in 2003 after a weekend-long binge on raw chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate covered pretzels. As a result, I began trying to quit sugar but kept failing. Finally, I figured out a way to stay off sweet junk food for good.
