Eight years ago I was eating sugar all the time. I didn’t realize that my diet was beating up my health and energy levels. I’d stay up all night, sleep all morning, and have the hardest time getting started each day.
I’m still no morning person by any means, but I can wake up every morning without issue. There’s absolutely no way I’d be able to bike ride to work everyday and do the kind of work I do were I still eating sweets. I’m lucky to be in good health generally.
For those of you who are out-of-shape, dealing with chronic illness, or in pain, avoiding sugar will only help improve your condition. It doesn’t happen fast but imagine having the energy to be able to add exercise to your schedule. Imagine being able to keep your energy if you are already exercising. Imagine feeling awake and alert all the time—provided you’re hydrated and well fed with good food.
To stop being sweet isn’t about becoming a health nut. But even if it was, what’s so bad about having health as a primary concern?
This is motivation for me! It seems like I’m always tired or just plain don’t have energy. It’s not that I’m lazy because I can and do make myself get up and do what needs to be done, but it’s tough sometimes.
This kind of sounds to me like a recent lesson I’ve learned the hard way (haha). When I got to college, I had much more time to sleep. BUT the more I slept, the more tired I seemed to be. Kind of like the way sugar will give you energy, but overall it can just make you more sluggish and less energized. Not that you shouldn’t sleep, but I guess I’m just saying that there is such a thing as “too much of a good thing”...Am I getting this? Does that make sense?

I used to fall asleep at 3 pm everyday and be so out of it the building could collapse around me and I’d not wake up. Then after about three hours I’d wake up so slowly and feel so sluggish and heavy. The sleep itself was pretty deep and kind of an escape, but the wake up was terrible.
