Date Fudge Is Great Fudge

July 14, 2007 Comments (2)

I stopped in Proper Eats in St. Johns, Portland last night and asked if they had anything without sugar.  Turns out they make some great sugar-free fudge sweetened with dates.

When you first quit sugar (or when you are still eating sugar) naturally sweetened foods will taste “light” and you will think they’re not sweet enough. But after you get off sweets for a while naturally sweetened fruit-based foods become delicious. The best part about them is that they’re not addictive.

If you’re used to eating the whole batch of fudge in one sitting—and you had a whole batch of date fudge in front of you—you couldn’t eat it all if you tried.

Why?

Because it’s filled with fiber. They’re VERY satisfying.

I used to be able to eat 24 large chocolate chip cookies from the supermarket bakery in one sitting and now one date fudge bar does it for me. Actually, one left me feeling satisfied but I’d have probably eaten a second if I had it.  Had I eaten a second it probably would have been too much.

There are many alternatives to sugary foods right in your own neighborhood. If you live in a more metropolitan area then they’re easier to find. If you are more secluded from the city, you might need to create your own alternatives.

But my point is, the alternatives are out there and they’re delicious!

Find stuff to eat other than sweets.

Make your own natural snacks.

Tell us how you do!

Hi,

My name is Frida and I’m from Sweden. I have a short
question for you that I hope you could answer. I’m
actually writing a book about eating disorders in
different kind of ways and also other forms of anxiety
about food, and I think that it would be interesting
to get in touch with you (if you think that you have
something to talk about). I’d love it if you answered
directly to my e-mail, .(JavaScr ipt must be enabled to view this email address). If someone
else would be interested in sharing their experiences
or information (everything; overeating, anorexia,
sugar addiction, bulimia, ortorexia and so on) please
contact me. Obvouusly it’s anonymous and you will of
course get at copy of the book.

In my city;  there are few organic/whole foods around. Finding creative solutions that are affordable is difficult
