When I got to work today there was a bag of cookies with a label that read, “Peanut Butter Oatmeal with Sweet’n'Low. Help yourself.”
I tried one. You could certainly taste sweetness and it wasn’t sugar. I only ate one, mind you, and began to wonder who made them and how I could get the recipe to post here on the site. But 5 minutes later I felt a strange feeling all over my body and thought, “forget it!”
Artificial sweeteners often leave me feeling all chemically inside. Not sure how you feel about them, but natural sweeteners (honey, maple syrup, grape juice) feel much better to me in the long run.
I feel the exact same way about artificial sweetners-taste them right away and don’t feel good (even the touted Splenda).
I really like Agave nectar, which comes from the Agave plant and is reported to be low glycemic and natural. It has a light taste and is available in CA at WildOats and other natural foods stores. Other than that, I will use the other alternatives you mentioned.
