This week’s challenge is to challenge yourself.
Come up with a sugar abstinence goal that you feel is within your grasp and go for it!
If you’d like, let us know what you’re going to do and/or how you did it in the comments below.
I am going to cut out sugar and peanut butter for the remainder of the week (through Sunday).

My sugar abstinence goal was to go a whole year without sweets, much as you described in your early blog entries. Starting Jan. 1st of this year, I’ve stuck to it. No chocolate of any kind, no cookies, candy, cake, donuts, ice cream, juices, or any other treats or sweets. This is quite an accomplishment for me as I’ve had a sweet tooth since childhood. Oh, and I’ve also lost over 20 lbs. since the 1st - that tells you how much of that crap I used to eat!
It was your inspiration, David, that made this possible; reading your blog, and also telling myself that it’s only for a year. I don’t think I could have done this if I told myself it was forever. It’s actually been pretty easy to resist all sweets knowing that it’s just for a year, and I know I’ll make it until the end of this year.
I’m not sure what I’ll do come next Jan. 1st. I know I won’t binge, and I also believe I’ll permanently cut out all low quality junk, but I may have some occassional dark chocolate or high quality ice cream. Not sure yet, but I know I’ll cut way back compared to what I used to eat.
Thank you so much, David. I always look forward to reading your blog.

I had a tough couple of weeks on vacation at the beach with family, including kids, and caved to carrot cake, which led to other caves—no need to elaborate. My goal as of today through August is no sugar, starch, artificial sweeteners. I have felt like you-know-what with little sleep, bloating, etc. The power of sugar is not to be dismissed. I realize it is much easier to be on the straight-and-narrow at home, than with other people who eat lots of sugars, etc.
I hate feeling like a schmuck! But, today is the first day….. so all will be well.

I realized I had a sugar problem back in 2003 after a weekend-long binge on raw chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate covered pretzels. As a result, I began trying to quit sugar but kept failing. Finally, I figured out a way to stay off sweet junk food for good.
Don’t quit sugar. Stop Being Sweet instead! Questions? Please ask!
