World Trade Center aftermath as seen from space.
I launched this website in August of 2001 intending for it to be a place where people could share stories about New York City. One month later the towers fell. In the days following the attack, New Yorkers seemingly only spoke of one thing—recounting stories about what happened on September 11th.
After several weeks had passed, conversations began to shift back to everyday things. Vivid memories diminish over time and eventually disappear completely. The first-hand survivor stories contained here where collected while they were fresh on people’s minds. In addition to stories, this memorial also holds some of the most popular electronic folklore that circulated the Internet during the weeks and months following the September 11th attacks.
