I want to contribute a WTC story from a happier time. On the evening of September 6th, a friend and I were on the river landing in Brooklyn Heights next to the site of Bargemusic, a little barge in the river where chamber music concerts take place every weekend. As we watched a young man and woman unfurled a large banner, maybe 20’ long, which they held up on poles at either end. Written on the banner in large letters was “Malkie WillU” and we asked the meaning of these cryptic words. The young woman explained that her brother, Avi, had taken his girlfriend to the top of the WTC and this was going to be the moment when he pointed her toward the spot in Brooklyn Heights to read his proposal. I’m sorry that no more young lovers can pop the question so dramatically.
