I love sharing Qigong and Tai Chi with people. Needless to say I had a blast with the folks from NW Veg last night during a Qigong and Tai Chi demonstration in Vancouver, WA.

We began with some Qigong exercises as I explained the general concepts. Then we did a simple two-person exercise, which illustrates fight, flight, and rooting. I was happy that everyone participated! We finished up by doing the first section of the Cheng Man Ching 37 posture Tai Chi form.

Tai Chi is often called “China’s gift to the world” and I am always honored to, in some small way, act as an ambassador for this amazing folk art.

Tai Chi Demo & Vegetarian Potluck

Come on Thursday, June 27 from 6:30 - 8:45 PM in Vancouver, WA for a NW Veg potluck followed by a free Tai Chi form demonstration, which I will lead.

Northwest VEG is a non-profit 501(c)(3) group in the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA area. They have monthly potlucks that sound delicious!

Come to the Potluck at 6:30, the presentation at 7:30, or both. The potluck will be at the Clark Public Utilities Service Center, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA 98663. Very quick to reach from Portland. Exit at the East Mill Plain Blvd Exit (1C), head east 0.1 miles, and it is just south on Fort Vancouver Way. (See map.)

For the potluck, please bring a plant-based (no animal products, including honey) main dish, salad, or dessert; a card listing its ingredients; and plates and utensils for your use. If you come alone, figure the amount to serve 4-6; increase the amount 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family. Northwest VEG potlucks are alcohol-free events. 100 Day Gong

Beginning June 24th, I am doing 100 Days of Gong to focus on healthy diet and internal Qigong practice. I have always found it easier to stay focused on a task when others are doing the same thing, so I am inviting you to join me in ending each day with a smile from knowing the work is done!

In China, Gong is the amount of time you designate to practice a specific task each day. Being a classical pianist would be the result of many days of gong. Having healthy teeth and gums could be the result of good gong.

Why Gong?

Gong could be translated to mean work. There’s a concept in Chinese arts practices that you won’t know if something is effective until you’ve done it daily for 100 days in a row. For instance, if you want to try going sugar free, 100 days is how long you’d need to do it in order to measure results.

As you may already know, when attempting to change your weight, build muscle, or develop a new skill, a week’s worth of practice just isn’t long enough to change your habits. That’s where the 100 days comes into play.

100 Days

That may sound like a lot, but it’s not. Look at your calendar and see what you were doing 100 days ago. Chances are it will feel like a long time has passed since then, but it’s just 100 days. That’s a third of a year. A season.

That time will pass whether you do or don’t do anything. Why not take the next 100 days to alter your habits and get closer to your goals?

Simply figure out what it is you want to practice for the next 100 days. Then, download and print out the gong check sheet (link below). At the end of each day, draw a smile on the little face to show that you were happy from accomplishing your gong for the day.
